New Panel in place to help with hurricane relief

Former United States Virgin Island Senator Clifford Graham was appointed the chairman of the recently formed US Virgin Islands Hurricane and Resiliency Advisory Group. Mr. Graham is the President and CEO of the West Indian Company and the Island’s largest St. Thomas Mall. Mr. Graham was also the director of the Housing Finance Authority of the Virgin Island. Following the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Governor Kenneth Mapp is leading an advisory committee that will help guide the reconstruction of the U.S. Virgin Island.

The expert committee members of the Virgin Island Hurricane and Resiliency Advisory Group, consist of high profiled individuals who are not just putting together some present-day reconstruction ideals but to also help protect the Virgin Islands existence from future damaging storms. The advisory committee will be under the auspices of the Governor’s Office and is made up of business experts, environmental experts, government leaders, finance industry leaders, health care officials, tourism industry experts, and many other entrepreneurial leaders from the U.S. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Advisory Group will be addressing the future of the Virgin Islands, security plans, tourism, immediate recovery plans, economic plans, and quality infrastructure changes to residential and business structures. Governor Kenneth Mapp and the diverse committee members will monitor the distribution of all federal and private disaster assistance to make sure that no one is omitted from getting their fair share, especially the Island’s citizenry. The Virgin Island Hurricane and Resiliency Advisory Group has also been tasked with creating the necessary policies and guidelines to prioritize the Virgin Island’s infrastructure investments for the near and long term.

The immediate efficacy discussions by the experienced and knowledgeable advisory committee will be multi-faceted. These diverse leaders will talk about the immediate damage and how to keep the Island open and operating for everyone. In addition to the Governor and Senator Graham, the 18-member V.I. Hurricane and Resiliency Advisory Group consists of Beverly Nichlson-Doty, Dr. Jerome M. Adams, Vivek Daswani, Anthony Hurley, Elizabeth Armstrong, Valdamier Collens, Judith Enck, Andrew Farkas, Eugene Farrell, Sen. Novelle E. Francis, Jr., Daryl Griffith, Hans Lawaetz, John McInnis III, Basil Ottley, Geri Purvis, Marjorie Roberts, and Harriet Tregoning.
